Former Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah at the weekend received a meritorious award at a reception organised by Ndigbo Lagos for eminent persons who had contributed towards the socio-economic uplift of the South-East region.
The award, according to the organisers, was in recognition of her contributions in transforming Nigeria’s aviation sector into world-class standard.
Ndigbo Lagos is a socio-cultural organisation that serves as a central point for the articulation, coordination, promotion and protection of the interest and well-being of the Igbo in Lagos State.
President General of the group and chief host for the event, Prof. Anya Anya, described Oduah as a pride of Ndigbo, noting that she was a rare woman and achiever who had brought international recognition to Ndigbo through her hardwork and commitment in facilitating the building of an international airport in Enugu, the first in the South-East region.
Anya said Ndigbo would continue to regard her success with the Enugu International Airport as a great achievement considering past failures on the project, noting that the airport would enhance the rapid economic growth of the region.
Eight other illustrious Igbo sons who had made tremendous impact in different fields received meritorious awards for their various achievements.
They included the immediate-past governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi; immediate-past chief of army staff, General Azubuike Ihejirika; former chief of naval staff, Admiral Dele Ezeoba; and former minister of power, Professor Barth Nnaji.
Others were the former executive secretary of Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA), Reginald Chika Stanley, former managing director/CEO of Fidelity Bank Plc, Mr. Reginald Ihejiahi; former managing director of Nigeria Liquidfied Natural Gas (NLNG), Chima Ibeneche and former managing partner of PriceWaterHouse, Mr. Ken Igbokwe.
Responding on behalf of the recipients, Obi, thanked Ndigbo Lagos for recognising their achievements while in office and deciding to celebrate their own.
