FRSC Returns Kaduna Crash Victim’s N.4m To Family
The Sabon Tasha Unit of the Kaduna Sector Command, Federal Road Safety Corps, on Thursday returned N419,290 to the family of Mufutau Salami, who died in an auto crash in the state.
While calling on motorists to avoid dangerous driving, the Unit Commander, Muhammadu Ogoshi, presented the said money to the family of the deceased at the Mararaban Rido area of Chikun Local Government Area of the state.
Ogoshi said it was the culture of the corps to return anything found with accident victims to his or her family, adding that the commission would not not tamper with accident victims’ property.
According to the commander, the victim loaded some cartons of beer from Airforce Mammy Market to a beer depot in Sabo Tasha along the new Kaduna Road when the accident occurred.
He said the victim died before FRSC operatives, who arrived at the scene, could rescue him, adding that FRSC patrol team removed the victim’s body and took it to the Saint Gerald Catholic Hospital, Kakuri in the state capital.
Ogoshi explained that the crash might be due to over speeding or loss of control, noting that the ban on commercial motorcyclists, popularly known as okada riders, in Kaduna State, had reduced accident cases significantly.
The commander said, “My men recovered N419,290 and other property from the vehicle and have handed it over to the relatives of the deceased.
“The deceased wife, Mrs Binta Omwumi Salami, received the money and properties on behalf of her family.
“It is the culture of FRSC,we don’t play with accident properties and money. We are very conscious of that. We don’t receive bribe too”
The deceased wife,Mrs Binta Salami in her response, commended the FRSC for their patriotism and honesty in handling accident victims belongings.

EFCC Goes After Ex-Gov. Modu Sheriff Over N300 Billion Borno Funds
The Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has summoned a former Governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sherriff over allegations connected to misappropriation and embezzlement during his governorship tenure, Premium Times reports.
According to the report, the former governor is expected to report at the EFCC head office in Abuja on Thursday, April 23, 2015.
Sources at the EFCC told Premium Times that if Sherriff fails to appear as directed, he will be declared wanted and arrested.
It was reported that detectives are already on the former governor’s trail to ensure he does not leave the country.
Details are still sketchy about the exact allegations against Sherriff, but it is believed to be linked to the N300 billion his administration received from the Federal account between 2003 and 2011.
Report says the fund may have ended in personal coffers.
Sheriff was senator between 1999 and 2003 on the platform of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), and later became the Governor of Borno state under the aegis of the same party.

Jonathan won’t contest in 2019 – Babatope
A member, Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Ebenezer Babatope, has said that President Goodluck Jonathan will not run for the presidency in 2019.
He explained that the party would shop for a strong Hausa/Fulani candidate to run against the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, in 2019.
Babatope, who is also a member of the party’s elders’ caucus, spoke with our correspondent on Victoria Island, on Wednesday.
He described the outgoing President as a leader, who had done his best in uplifting the nation’s democracy, adding that Nigeria would forever remember Jonathan as a committed leader who kept the nation as one despite several challenges.
He said he was sure that the President would not seek to contest the 2019 presidential election although “the people of the South-South have the right to present a candidate for the election, I’m sure the President will not contest; He will lead us to against the All Progressives Congress.”
He said, “The President has set himself apart as a great Nigerian leader, who is committed to seeing Nigeria blossom into a great democracy. He has laid a solid foundation for the nation’s democracy and he would forever be remembered.”
“The President will not contest the 2019 presidential election. The PDP will look for a strong Hausa/Fulani presidential candidate to contest against Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).
“We have a strong presence in the South-South, South-East and we have two governors in the South-West. We are going to slug it out together in the North in 2019. We are going to flush out the APC in 2019 because we are going to correct our mistakes and take back the central government.”
The former Minister of Transport said PDP’s National Executive Council, the BoT and Elders’ Caucus would meet soon in Abuja to assess the outcome of the general elections.
He said, “We are going to restructure our party. The National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, will convene a meeting in two weeks’ time when we will objectively discuss the last elections.
“Apart from the grand conspiracy against our party by the powers that be in the elections, we are going to tackle the problem of imposition, which was a great area of mistake on our side. Crises were recorded across the states over imposition. We are going to guard against this. The APC will, naturally, make its own mistakes and we will capitalise on these.
“It is given in politics that mistakes would occur among the ruling party. We will all see when this begins to happen. We are watching and waiting.”

Boluwatife Tijani, 12-year-old girl wins spelling bee competition in Lagos
Lagos – Boluwatife Tijani, a 12-year-old pupil of Araromi Primary School, Agege, on Wednesday emerged the winner in the 2015 Spelling Bee competition in Lagos State.
Tijani, a Primary Six pupil, competed with 56 other contestants representing the 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas in the state in the competition held in Ikeja.
Ten-year-old Iretiola Ifaniyi, a Primary Five pupil of Methodist Primary School, Ibese, came second while 10-year-old Jonathan Arowodu of Akesan Primary School came third.
The winners received N150, 000, N100, 000 and N75, 000 respectively from the state government.
Mrs Ronke Soyombo, Director-General, Office of Education Quality Assurance, said that the competition was aimed at developing the innate skills of pupils and students.
Soyombo said the competition had been able to fulfill the ultimate goal of creating healthy rivalry amongst students as well as drawing out their intellectual capabilities.
She said that the agency had already set in motion machineries aimed at improving the quality of education in Lagos.
The Director-General said that the competition was the brainchild of the former first lady of the state, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, the founder of New Era Foundation.
“The idea of spelling competition, conceived in 2006 to encourage academic excellence, was adopted by the Lagos State Ministry of Education.
“The competition has helped students/pupils improve their spelling skills, increase vocabulary and develop correct English usage,’’ she said.
According to her, it is also creating good reading habits that will lead to better academic performance and boost the confidence of participants.
She said this was with a view to preparing the pupils/students for future endeavours and igniting the spirit of competition among them.
Some of the winners who spoke to NAN commended the state government for introducing the competition.
Tijani said that she studied the dictionary very well in order to emerge the winner.
“I am very happy and excited, I always read my dictionary and I thank God that I won the first position.
“My parents are traders; they support me in all that I do.
“I will spend my money on my studies because I want to become a medical doctor,’’ she said.
Ifaniyi said that she read her English textbooks and dictionary everyday to improve her spelling ability.
“I am very happy for winning the second position; I won with the help of my parents and teachers.
“I thank my mother, she sells recharge cards and support me in everything I do,’’ she said.
The class teacher of Tijani, Mrs Olubumi Adewunmi, said she was happy with the success recorded by her pupil.
Adewunmi, an English teacher, said the competition had improved the performance of students.
“She has made our school proud today; this is the first time we are winning the competition.
“We expected her to win because we coached her very well for the competition.
“She is a very outstanding girl in the school, she participated in all activities in class,’’ she said.

African First Ladies Summit: Dame Patience Rigs Out Aisha Buhari
Notwithstanding the official preparation of the federal government to commence the handover ceremonies from the Goodluck Jonathan administration to President-elect Muhammadu Buhari, the first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, plans to host wives of African leaders to a jamboree on May 15 before she leaves office.
It was her grand design to deny the wife of the President-elect Hajiya Aisha Buhari the hosting rights of the African First Ladies Peace Mission (AFLPM) in July aimed at electing a new President of the non-governmental organisation.
To Dame Jonathan, the summit of the AFLPM to elect its new president is a mission she must superintend before she leaves office.
It will be the first time in AFLPM history that an emergency meeting was called to meet transition exigencies.
Nigeria is the major financier of the AFLPM and is currently building an N8billion permanent secretariat for the continental non-government organisation. Mrs Jonathan finished Nigeria’s first term mandate given to her predecessor, Hajiya Turai Yar’Adua, whose husband, President Umaru Yar’Adua, died in office.
The continent’s first ladies had scheduled their 8th Summit for July, 2015, before Mrs Jonathan requested them to bring it forward to May 15, because she would no longer be Nigeria’s first lady by that time.
If the status quo had been maintained, it would have been Hajiya Aishat Buhari’s privilege to host the continent’s first ladies in July, just two months into her husband’s tenure.
The AFLPM had on July 26, 2012, re-elected Nigeria as its president at its 7th Summit in Abuja, where guests were extravagantly treated and driven in 200 exotic cars, comprising 80 units of BMW X3 and X5 with a market value of N13.5million each, while the remaining 120 were exotic Jaguar, Honda and other brands.
LEADERSHIP obtained a copy of the letter entitled ‘Notice of Emergency Summit of the African First Ladies Peace Mission’ addressed to all the 52 member countries.
Dated April 6, with reference number SH/HEC/AFLPM/VOL.1/15, Mrs Jonathan passionately pleaded for a change of date to enable her host the extravaganza as she prepares to leave office.
She signed it herself as: “Dame (Dr) Patience Faka Jonathan, First Lady, Federal Republic of Nigeria and President, Africa First Ladies Peace Mission.”
Mrs Jonathan’s letter recalled that when the executive bureau of the body met in October 2014, in Pretoria, South Africa, it was agreed that “the next meeting (8th Summit) of our organisation will hold in July 2015”
The purpose of the Summit, she added, was “to elect the next president of the Mission and ratify the appointment of its executive secretary.
“You will recall that Nigeria was re-elected president of the AFLPM at the 7th Summit in Abuja. With the recent election in my country and a new government coming on board from May 29, 2015, it has become necessary to convene an emergency summit of the AFLPM to facilitate a smooth and formal hand over to the new executive committee that will pilot the affairs of the Peace Mission for the next two years.”
The first lady said she was making the proposition to avoid a leadership vacuum in the AFLPM, “as was the case in 2010 when my predecessor left office suddenly without handing over to a successor.”
She stressed that she wanted to guarantee a seamless take-off for the incoming leadership of the organisation “in view of the limited time available.”
Senior special assistance to the president on media and publicity, Dr Reuben Abati, however, denied that the lavish sponsorship of the summit was at the expense of government.
Abati said: “In accordance with its modus operandi, the AFLPM set up several committees, including a finance committee, to raise funds and sponsorship for the organisation of its Abuja summit.
“As part of its own contributions to the successful hosting of the summit by the first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, Coscharis Motors Ltd offered to provide some cars for the event at no cost to the organisers or the federal government of Nigeria”.
The land on which the secretariat is being built was originally allocated to the Women and Youth Empowerment Foundation (WAYEF), a non-governmental organisation run by Mrs Jonathan predecessor, Hajiya Turai Yar’Adua. However, in November 2011, however, the FCT minister, Bala Mohammed, revoked the allocation and transferred ownership of the land to AFLPM.

We’ll Regain Power In 2019 – PDP
Barely a month after its defeat by the All Progressives Congress, the Peoples Democratic Party on Wednesday vowed to regain power in 2019.
To achieve this, members of the National Working Committee and state chairmen of the party have resolved to work together.
The APC won the March 28 and April 11 elections by producing Nigeria’s next President in the person of Muhammadu Buhari and a majority of the state governors.
The APC also won most of the seats in the National Assembly and state Houses of Assembly.
Rising from a meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, the NWC members led by the National Chairman of the party, Adamu Mua’zu, and the state chairmen agreed to adopt strategies towards winning the elections in 2019.
The PDP’s resolve was contained in a joint statement issued at the end of the meeting by the Vice-Chairman of the party in the North-West, Ibrahim Kazaure, and the Benue State Chairman, Emmanuel Agbo.
The statement read in part, “The meeting resolves to give all necessary support to the national leadership of the party under the chairmanship of Adamu Mu’azu to enable them to re-engineer and rebrand the party for the task of regaining power by 2019.
“The meeting notes the outcome of the 2015 general elections and accordingly resolves not to allow the temporary setback affect the party’s contributions to the democratic development of the country.
“The meeting notes and appreciates the patriotic stand taken by President Goodluck Jonathan after the elections as another milestone in the party’s contributions to peace, stability and progress of the nation.”
The statement said that the meeting also decried what it called the “widespread anomalies and irregularities” that it said characterised the general elections in many states to the disadvantage of the PDP.
It added that the party had resolved “to give full backing to the various pursuits of redress in this regard within the ambit of the law and tenets of democracy.”
The meeting therefore directed all its candidates who believed that they were short-changed to channel their grievances through their state chairmen.
It also agreed to resist “undue harassment, witch-hunt and any form of intimidation or undemocratic tendencies from the opposition aimed at bringing down members of the PDP psychologically.”
It claimed that it had noted the subterranean moves by the APC to undermine the structures of the PDP across the country with the sinister motive of imposing a one-party state on the polity.
The meeting cautioned Buhari against any action or inaction that could threaten or erode the gains of democracy and personal freedom that had been established in the last 16 years by the PDP.
It added that the NWC members and the state chairmen resolved to galvanise the structures of the PDP and give full support to the party’s candidates for the supplementary governorship elections in Abia, Taraba and Imo states.
According to the statement, the meeting also charged the Independent National Electoral Commission and other stakeholders involved in the supplementary elections to be forthright, transparent and ensure that the will of the people in the three states were not in any way subverted.
The meeting resolved to set up special committees on the repositioning of the party.
The National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, refused to react to the PDP claims on Wednesday.
Mohammed said the APC would not dignify the PDP’s boast with an answer. “No comment,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission has inaugurated a 12-member committee to produce a comprehensive report on the general elections.
At a brief ceremony at the commissions headquarters in Abuja, the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega, urged the members of the committee to produce “an excellent report” before June 30, 2015, which marks the end of tenure of the present commission.”
Jega, who asked the members of the committee to give their full commitment to the job ahead, assured them of his full support in order to facilitate effective execution of the assignment.
The committee, which draws its membership from across INEC’s departments, is chaired by the National Commissioner in charge of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Chris Iyimoga.
Responding, Iyimoga appreciated the commission for the opportunity to serve and expressed confidence that the members of the committee, given their pedigree, would produce an excellent report within the time frame given.
Members of the committee are M.J Kuna, Okey Ndeche, the Chief Press Secretary to the chairman of the commission, Kayode Idowu; Nick Dazang, Chima Duruaku and Okechukwu Ibeanu.
Other are Fatu Ogwuche, Nnamdi Nweze, Aminu Idris, Shehu Wahab and John Irem , who will serve as the secretary.

Kidnapper Shot Dead While Picking N3m Ransom (graphic Photo)
A suspected kidnapper, Niyi Omosola, has been shot dead by the police in the Epe area of Lagos.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Omosola was shot dead during a rescue operation by the police to free a victim, identified simply as Kudirat.
It was gathered that Omosola, while collecting the ransom, sighted the police and decided to escape on a motorcycle when the operatives fired him.
It was gathered that Omosola, who hailed from Ondo State, allegedly led a gang which kidnapped the woman in the Elemoro, Ajah area.
Sixty-two-year-old Kudirat was reportedly abducted by the gang on Thursday, April 16, at about 7pm.
Our correspondent learnt that Kudirat, a businesswoman, was inspecting the construction work at a petrol station she owned in the area when the kidnappers swooped on her and took her away.
It was gathered that the gang later contacted the family and demanded a ransom of N50m. However, after negotiation, our correspondent learnt that the the gang and the family agreed to a ransom of N3m.
PUNCH Metro learnt on Wednesday that Kudirat’s brother, who had been communicating with the gang, took the ransom to an agreed hideout in the Epe area.
However, a team of operatives led by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad Commander, Abba Kyari, was said to have trailed Kudirat’s brother to the hideout.
A police source said Omosola, while collecting the ransom, initially opened fire when he sighted the police.
He added that when the kingpin saw that he was outnumbered, he tried to escape on a motorcycle, leaving the policemen with no choice than to fire him.
He said, “The kidnappers are a notorious gang. They had conducted several operations in the area. In the latest incident, they demanded N50m initially, but when the family could not produce the amount, they finally agreed to N3m. They also arranged where the place of meeting would be in the Epe area.
“The police trailed the brother, who was taking the money to Epe, where Omosola was waiting. Immediately he collected the ransom, he suspected that policemen were around and he began to shoot sporadically.
“He got on a motorcycle and was riding off when he was gunned down. He did not die immediately.”
PUNCH Metro learnt that Omosola, who was injured, led the SARS operatives to a bush between Epe and Ijebu Ode, where the woman was held.
When the police arrived at the hideout, his gang members had reportedly fled the place.
It was gathered that Kudirat was rescued alive by the police, while Omosola eventually died from the gunshot injuries.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, said efforts were on to apprehend the remaining gang members.
He said, “When the information was received, the operatives trailed the gang to the location.
“The kidnap kingpin actually fired at SARS operatives, who were carrying out the rescue operation, and they fired back. In the process, he was fatally wounded.
“The woman has been rescued, while the corpse has been deposited at a public morgue.
“Efforts are being intensified to arrest other fleeing members of the gang.”

PDP CHIEF- Bode George Worked For Tinubu
A Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant in Lagos State, Babatunde Gbadamosi, has accused the leader of the party, Chief Bode George, of colluding with the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to ensure PDP’s defeat in Lagos.
He, therefore, called on George to resign immediately.
However, in a swift reaction, George described Gbadamosi as an irresponsible man who may be suffering from a mental problem.
Gbadamosi, who came fourth at the PDP governorship primary last year, said the party would have performed better at the poll if the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Musiliu Obanikoro, was given the ticket.
In a series of Facebook posts, Gbadamosi accused George and other PDP leaders of using the money meant for the party to buy new homes in FESTAC, Ikoyi, Magodo and Maryland.
He said, “Losers can only lead to failure. Go and enjoy your new houses in Magodo, Ikoyi, FESTAC and Maryland, all bought in election season. You have all worked diligently these last 12 years for Tinubu. You can now retire to your natural political home – APC.
“You know you betrayed the party and diverted resources meant for elections. Leave quietly or be exposed and thoroughly disgraced. It is amazing how a man that cannot win his polling unit is our leader. Bode George must go and swiftly too.
“In 2015, he claimed to be fighting Obanikoro, conducted shambolic primaries, got his parachute candidate and lost again. Every step of the way, he has demonstrated a befuddling poverty of judgement, insisting on bad candidates time after time.
“Who has been the biggest single beneficiary of Bode George’s incompetence and inability to win? BolaTinubu. That’s why Bode George must go. It makes you wonder, doesn’t it, where his real loyalty has been this whole time.”
However, George said it was funny that someone could claim he was working for Tinubu who he had been battling for the last 16 years.
He said he never had direct access to funds as the money for campaigns were not given to him.
He said, “This little boy who just developed into politics wants to run before he can crawl. Imagine Gbadamosi going on Twitter to say I am a mole. He said I have been working with Tinubu. He must have woken on the wrong side of the bed or probably came from another planet or something is mentally wrong with him.”

understatement. It is estimated that there
are over 100,000 Nigerians in the
creative industry.

The New Female Condom Which Can 'make A Woman Orgasm Every Time'
A company has developed a female condom it claims can make a woman orgasm every time. The new condom, called the VA w.o.w, has a heart or star-shaped vibrating sleeve which allegedly can bring a woman to orgasm during sex. The sleeve also keeps the condom from slipping too far into the vagina, its makers claim.
The new condom, being developed by IXu LLC, a Michigan-based condom company, can be inserted into the vagina up to eight hours before sex. It carried out a survey of the new condoms on 50 couples and found that 70 per cent of women had an orgasm the first time they used VA w.o.w. By the second use, 84 per cent of women had been brought to orgasm, and by the fourth use, 100 per cent of the women had achieved success.
The rate of orgasm for women by the fourth time of use was 100 percent. It was a higher orgasm rate for women than even for men,' IXu's Brian Osterberg told the Daily Dot. 'It just goes to show how powerful the technology is. 'Now, iXu is looking for manufacturers to bring the products to global markets. It has been awarded five patents to create a new breed of condoms which combine regular latex sheaths – which protect against pregnancy and STDs - with miniature electronic intimacy gadgets. The company wants to create 'wearable tech' condoms.
A spokesperson for the company said in future, the condoms could be connected to smartphones and controlled remotely. The condom, called the VA w.o.w., has a heart or star-shaped ring which vibrates and can induce an orgasm. The condom can be inserted up to eight hours before sex and protects against pregnancy and STI
In a statement, an IXu spokesperson said: 'One could communicate and control the condom (by wireless remote, smart phone etc) while the condom perform various stimulating functions; vibe/pulse sensations, sound, heat and light emissions. 'Various health-related agencies have reported that men prefer female condoms rather than male condoms, according to IXu.
But women preferred to use male condoms, it said. Therefore, it hoped they have solved the problem by making a female condom 'women preferred to use rather than male condoms'.
