From TAIWO AMODU, Abuja
Factional Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Plateau state governor, Jonah Jang of Plateau state has faulted the position of the Forum under the leadership of Rivers state governor, Rotimi Amaechi on the axed governor of Central Bank,Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.
Recall that the Federal Government had last Thursday suspended the apex bank governor over alleged cases of impunity, incompetence, non-challance , fraud, wastefulness, and noncompliance with provisions of the Public Procurement Act 2007
In a communique issued at the end of their meeting on Tuesday and signed by Rotimi Amaechi, the NGF condemned the suspension of governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.
The Forum declared in their communique that suspension of governor of the apex bank was in clear breach of the Nigerian Constitution and the CBN Act 2007.
They further claimed that the action of the federal government “is aimed at diverting attention from the current national discourse on the missing $20 billion from NNPC Account, allegations of corruption and questionable accountability.”
But a statement made available by the secretariat of the Gov. Jang led NGF and signed by Kassim Yakubu, the Plateau state governor berated the Amaechi led NGF as it accused it of playing politics with the suspension of the CBN governor by President Goodluck Jonathan.” He noted that Nigerians have grown weary of Governor Amaechi turning every issue even beyond his purvey into a political opportunity.
Gov Jang further claimed that Gov Amaechi could not speak on behalf of the governors in the country as according to him,” a vast majority of governors do not share in the anti- Federal Government zeal that the Rivers state governor champions as evident in the ever reducing number of governors he parades.
“Nigerians want governors to perform their primary functions of running their states and not this obsession with President Jonathan by Gov Amaechi and his cohorts.
“My advice to them is that Nigerians and history will decide if President Jonathan has performed as President. This lowly behaviour will not win them an election. “
Governor Jang also sent his sympathies to the parents of the school children killed by the Boko Haram extremists in Yobe state and called on the security forces not to relent in their effort to fish out the evil perpetrators of the heinous act.
