Super Eagles
Scotland coach Gordon Strachan monday announced his squad for the May 28 international friendly with the Super Eagles with Watford's exciting winger, Ikechi Anya, who has Nigerian ancestry expected to play prominent role in the clash.
The Tartan Army as the Scottish senior national team is called, will square up against their Nigerian counterparts as a test game for both sides as the African champions kick-starts their Brazil 2014 World Cup preparations at Fulham's Craven Cottage ground in London.
Strachan has handed a debut call up to Derby County pair of Craig Forsyth and Chris Martin who have been instrumental in the Rams chase for a promotion slot to the Barclays Premier League.
Derby County captain Craig Bryson also made the cut as well as Gary Caldwell and Shaun Maloney of Wigan who return to the fold after injury lay-offs.
Nigeria’s Head Coach, Stephen Keshi, had earlier last week released a 30-man preliminary squad that he hopes to prosecute the friendly matches arranged for the Super Eagles with the view of selecting the final 23 by the June 2 deadline.
The Super Eagles beat Scotland 2-1 the last time they met in April 2002 prior to the Japan/Korea 2002 World Cup. Christian Dailly put Scotland ahead in the seventh minute, but a brace from Julius Aghahowa in the 40th and 69th minute gave Nigeria the victory.
