Imo State first lady and founder of the She Needs A Root Project, SNARP, Mrs. Nneoma Nkechi Okorocha said she has spent N391 million on the construction and furnishing of 131 two-bedroom bungalows for indigent widows in the state, since the inception of her pet project.Mrs. Okorocha dropped the hint at the Government House, Owerri while briefing newsmen on the activities slated for the 2014 annual August meeting of Imo women tagged, “Indelible August Meeting.”
While restating her determination to ameliorate the condition of indigent widows in the state through her pet project, the wife of the governor disclosed that 131 poverty-ridden widows had so far benefited from the SNARP initiative.
She noted that the choice of beneficiaries is basically on merit as she put in place strategies to ensure that only deserving widows benefited from the pet project irrespective of their political party affiliation.
To ensure that the project is not hijacked by politicians, Nneoma Okorocha explained that an independent investigating team was set up to traverse the 27 LGAs of the state and fish out indigent widows that actually need the shelter.
She said, “There is no modicum of nepotism or favouritism in the implementation of SNAPRS because no government functionary is involved in it and it is clearly on merit.
“My office does not receive allocation from the state government and I channel the little I have to solving the problems of the poor and the down trodden.”
