The Kano state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is conducting the state congress of the party to elect the executive members to run the affairs of the party.
The party’s state congress held at popular Marhaba Cinema in Kano amidst tight security.
It was learnt that as early as 7am yesterday, thousands of party supporters trooped in large number to the venue of the congress but were screened by the security operatives before allowing them into the venue.
THISDAY learnt that three prominent members of the party are contesting the chairmanship post, including former party chairman, Senator Mas’ud Doguwa, Alhaji Rabiu Dan Sharu, and Alhaji Yahaya Bagobiri.
Top prominent stakeholders of the party like minister of foreign Affairs Alhaji Aminu Wali, Minister of education Malam Ibrahim Shekarau and Senate Chief Whip Senator Bello Hayatu Gwarzo are expected to attend the state congress.
Other top notches of the party to attend the congress include Alhaji Akilu Sani Indabawa, Alhaji Abba Risqua Murtala, Alhaji Mohammed Abacha, Senator Bashir Lado and other members of the state and national assembly under the party in the state.
THISDAY sources also revealed that the stakeholders of the party are holding secret meeting with a view to have a consensus person as the party chairman.
It was also observed that though the election was yet to start, but members are still circulating rumours that the election would hold in the night because of the series of effort to reconcile the contenders to pick a favourable person among them.
