Super Falcons,
The Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) yesterday splashed N10 million on the all-conquering Super Falcons when it hosted them to a special dinner at the group’s corporate headquarters in Maitama, Abuja.
The Falcons who conquered all comers to lift this year’s African Women Championship (AWC) trophy last weekend at Windhoek, Namibia received the monetary gift for their efforts alongside their handlers, and the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF).
The largesse was announced by the group's Director of Public Communications and Strategy, Dr Udenta O. Udenta, at the dinner party TAN put together for the golden girls.
He pointed out that the exploits and subsequent victory of the Super Falcons was one of the best developments in Nigerian sports and social circle in recent times. He added that the victory came at a time when peace was most needed in the country, given the fact that soccer is one of the most unifying factors in any society, especially Nigeria.
Dr Udenta noted that the victory was a clear manifestation of the can-do-it spirit of the Nigerian youths which he observed underlay the girl's patriotic zeal displayed throughout the tournament.
The TAN spokesperson said that it is gratifying that youths have gracefully imbibed President Goodluck Jonathan's winning streak/spirit which has made him to record tremendous achievements with his transformation agenda program.
He promised that TAN would continue to support the Super Falcons until they conquer the world in Canada next year. He noted that the TAN gesture would be extended to other sportsmen and women in the country who do the nation proud.
The NFF President, Mr Amaju Pinnick, in a remark at the occasion commended TAN, its Chairman, Dr Ifeanyi Uba, and his team for their unflinching support for sports development in the country and for standing out tall in public advocacy to showcase the achievements of Dr Goodluck Jonathan.
He admitted that TAN, like President Jonathan, has invested so much in sports advancement in the country and urge them to keep it up.
He urged all sportsmen and women, especially the Super Eagles to emulate the golden girls who put national interest ahead of personal interest during the tournament in Namibia.
According to a breakdown of the largesse, the Super Falcons are to get N5m oue to share N2m. The balance N3m goes to officials of the NFF.
