NANS backs Jonathan’s second term

The National Association of Nigerian Students, Ondo Joint Campus Committee Axis, has unanimously adopted President Goodluck Jonathan as its candidate for next month’s election.

The students reached the conclusion after a meeting of its leaders in the South-West Zone, held at the Federal University of Technology, Akure(FUTA) on Tuesday.

The meeting was attended by Presidents of Student Union Governments of the institutions in the zone, Ondo JCC Chairman Odunayo Kowe, NANS Southwest Zone D Treasurer, and the Vice President NANS, [National Affairs] Timilehin Ayenuro.

The students argued that they were supporting Jonathan for a second term for his key achievements in the education sector.

The achievements, they said, were the establishment of 150 Almajiri modern schools to boost education in the north, establishment of nine new federal universities, and ‎equipping of 51 Federal and State polytechnics with state-of-the-art laboratories.

Speaking on behalf of the students body, Ayenuro said the President had also ensured the restoration of the Federal Government Scholarships to students as well as the release of N200Billion Intervention Fund for the education sector.

The President of NANS, Yinka Gbadebo, who led the National Executive members of the association on a courtesy visit to the First Lady, Patience Jonathan, expressed their support at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The delegation, which passed a vote of confidence on Mr. Jonathan, also presented a certificate of credence to Mrs. Jonathan for her pursuit of peace and empowerment of women and the youth.

“As pragmatic and visionary Nigerians, we can see through the veil of distraction and boldly applaud the Goodluck administration for infrastructural and social transformation,” Mr. Gbadebo said.

“We have unflinchingly determined to put all political detractors and evil geniuses to shame in 2015 by giving Mr President the singular and total support of all Nigerian students.

“As a united association, all students have been mandated to cast their votes for President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to emerge victorious and continue the good works of transformation,’’ he added.
