2015: Ikorodu leaders back Solomon

By REMI ADEFULU
Political leaders in Ikorodu Division Under the aegis of Ikorodu leaders in politics (ILIP) have thrown their weight behind the governorship ambition of Senator Ganiyu Solomon of the All Progressives Party (APC) for the 2015 governoship election.
Rising from their meeting in Ikorodu yesterday, they said their decision followed their assessment of governoship aspirants from the division.
Speaking through Chief Tajudeen Jaiyesimi, the group disclosed that it decided to do the assessment to come up with the best man for the job. The ILIP said this was without prejudice to the efforts of Ikorodu Division Resource Group (IDRG), which is undertaking a similar assessment.
According to Jaiyesimi, the meeting, after carefully assessing the governoship aspirant, overwhelmingly chose Solomon as their candidate. He hinged this on the wide acceptance of the APC chieftain, his vast political experience and his grassroots acceptability.
Continuing, he reasoned that it was expedient for Ikorodu division to come up with a choice that could deliver the goods as far as the election was concerned Said he: “This is a golden opportunity for the division to produce the Lagos State governor in 2015, having not produced a democratically elected governor before.
“As politicians and stakeholders in the affairs of Lagos State, it is for this reason that we decided to seize this great opportunity by coming up with an exercise like this.”
The APC chieftain, who is also the Bashorun of Ipakodo, Ikorodu, stressed that it was gratifying that the assessment was done by politicians across the major political parties. This he said, showed that Ikorodu division truly deserved to produce the next governor of the state not minding political affiliation.
Speaking further, he praised the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Salaudeen Oyefusi for setting in motion a machinery to assess governorship aspirants through the IDRG.
This he said was quite commendable, as an assessment of the aspirants would enabled them come up with the best.
Jaiyesimi, who said he had been following the group’s activities, commended Solomon’s performance before the committee, describing it as awesome.
