THE presiding Bishop of Victory International Church, Rehoboth Cathedral, Ibadan, Bishop Taiwo Adelakun, who also doubles as the Chairman, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Oyo State chapter, has described the usage of abusive words on President Goodluck Jonathan by some Nigerians as lack of respect for the office of the president.
Bishop Adelakun, while speaking with newsmen in Ibadan, on Tuesday, noted that the act would make the international communities look down on the president.
“Abusing the president amounts to bringing down his office. The international communities will not respect the president and I believe people are doing this under the guise of human rights and freedom of speech.”
“In the United States of America and other developed countries in the world, they give absolute respect to their president, even in some African countries, citizens do not use offensive words on their president.”
He, however, urged those involved in such act to desist from it, while calling on journalists to educate the general public on how far they could go on the usage of freedom of speech.
Speaking on the general election, Bishop Adelakun said: “I am convinced that elections will hold, though democracy is a game of numbers, but where God’s influence comes into it is that the Bible says He owns the heart of men and He directs them to do whatever He wishes.
“We trust God that March 28 and April 11 will be a reality.”
