Oyo indigenes petition Jonathan over rising murder cases

jona2Some residents and indigenes of the ancient Oyo town in Oyo state have sent a petition to President Goodluck Jonathan and all security chiefs in the country to come to their rescue from mysterious killings and terrorism allegedly being perpetrated by agents of some highly placed individuals in the ancient town.
They also urged the security agencies to reopen the case of the Ashipa of Oyo, Chief Amuda Olorunosebi who was gruesomely mudered about 23 years ago.
In the petition entitled “Unprecedented criminality, bomb planting, gun running and unresolved assassination in Oyo town, Oyo state: an urgent need to investigate the complicity of...” and signed by Chiefs J. O Oluokun and Sulaiman Ajibola Isola, on behalf of concerned Oyo indigenes, they averred that if the trend is not promptly checked the entire town could go up in flames.
They expressed worry at the rate lives were being snuffed out without any just cause, while those not killed are traumatised.
The petitioners said it has become a norm for “persons connected/intimately associated with a prominent citizen in the town to commit heinous crimes in Oyo and go scot-free.”
They noted that for over 30 years series of petitions written to government on these criminal activities had gone either un investigated or investigated half-heartedly, all leading to no logical conclusion.
Listing Chiefs Lasisi Ayankojo and Busari Ajiboye as some of the victims of the uninvestigated petitions, they attached seven of such petitions and an affidavit sworn to by one Mojeed Agbaje, who also gave a CD on the various crimes he committed in the past.
They also listed some persons killed in the town under suspicious circumstances and whose death had not been thoroughly investigated to include the late Adebayo Adegbile and Alhaji Adebayo Salawu Atingisi, among others.
They reminded the security chiefs of an attempt to bomb some strategic locations, including the Muslim prayer ground, Isale Oyo, where Chief Ajiboye worships, in 2007 by persons yet to be apprehended by security agents.
Allegation of gunrunning was also made, adding that if thorough investigation had been done, some shocking discovery would have been made on the gun running allegation as confirmed by the said Agbaje.
The people expressed worry that some personalities seemed to have grown above the law, urging the security agencies to beam their search lights all angles and persons regardless of their position in the society be it traditional rulers or political heavy weights.
They prayed the security to take time to watch the conventional statement made by Agbaje on all he did in the past to whose interest he served to perpetrate such large scale heinous crimes.
“It is on this note that we call on you to, as a matter of urgency, cause a high powered investigation team to conduct a thorough investigation into every allegation contained in this letter in order to determine the level of complicity or otherwise of anybody no matter how highly placed such a person may be in the society. We equally wish to state that we shall be honoured to be called upon by your officers to furnish them with more information regarding anything contained in this letter.”
