A major gas facility that will boost electricity supply by 750 mega watts will be commissioned today in Akwa Ibom by President Goodluck Jonathan.
The. Uquo gas facility was designed to feed gas to the Akwa Ibom-owned power plant, the Ibom Power Company.
Already, joint venture partners to the project, Frontier Oil Ltd and Seven Exploration and Production Limited, have finalised arrangements for the official commissioning of the facility which is located in Eket, Akwa Ibom state.
According to the Uquo Joint Venture (JV) Partners, the gas facility is one of the biggest projects of its nature undertaken by independent indigenous partners in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The Uquo JV has commissioned the Train 2 of the Uquo Gas Processing Facility in readiness for supplying 131 million standards cubic feet of gas ( MMscfd) to the Calabar National Integrated Power Plant (NIPP) power station in fourth quarter of this year.
Trains 1 and 2 of the Uquo Gas Processing Facility will be supplying gas to provide 750 megawatts of electricity generation capacity at the Ibom Power station and the Calabar NIPP power station.
